Discipleship Pathway

Discipleship Pathway

                                                                Discipleship Pathway

People who desire to enter into the Discipleship Pathway will learn what it means to be a disciple by moving through three related but distinct phases.  A disciple is someone who follows Jesus, learns from Him and adopts His beliefs, and seeks to model his/her life after Him.  Each phase will focus on material that will help the disciple understand and implement this definition.  The discipling group will be highly relational and limited in number of people per group (Intentional Discipling Environment or IDE), so as to provide an environment for honesty, vulnerability, and genuine relationships with a high level of trust.

Phase 1: FOLLOW (Are you in the Game?)

The first IDE of the Discipleship Pathway will focus on a spiritual “gut check”.  We want the “disciple” to realistically assess where he or she is at with their current walk with the Lord.  The training manual will provide the opportunity for the discipling group to identify and discuss their spiritual maturity, as well as lay the groundwork for what we will be working toward.

Phase 2: LEARN/ADOPT (In the Home/In the Church)

The second IDE of the Discipleship Pathway will focus on learning the core of Christian truths, adopting these teachings into their life and family, as well as within the Church Body.  This includes understanding the basic truths of orthodox Christianity, what we believe and why we believe it, and how we grow deeper in our relationship with Jesus.  One component of this phase will involve some apprenticeship by serving alongside the “discipler” or finding another area to serve within the church according to their gifts.

Phase 3: MODEL (releasing to go to make disciples)

The third IDE of the Discipleship Pathway will focus on how one is on mission with Christ where they live, learn, work, and play.  This phase will equip the disciple to engage people and culture with the gospel and provide skills on having spiritual conversations.  The group will learn how to share one’s story in an evangelistic manner as well as how to share the gospel. The discipleship group will continue to put into practice the spiritual disciplines learned in Phase 2 and will begin praying about who the Lord is leading him or her to disciple.
